the.x.man 1:43- This is the fourth version of the site showcasing my model car collection. So far, it has been included on three different web design galleries...
Your website should not be just a billboard...
After all, a billboard is just a big flat sign that people whizz past at 50–100 km/h and more often than not, they take very little notice of them.
The internet is not much different…
No, instead of a billboard your website should be more like a shop window, offering an enticing glimpse into who you are and what you can offer. It should invite people in for a further look, rather than just zipping right on by.
The 3 second rule
You have probably read this before, but studies have shown that if the average internet user these days does not find what they are looking for — or like what they see — within 3 seconds, they will back out and continue searching elsewhere.
This is where I come in
My checquered past includes over ten years of retail experience (I believe I even have a New Zealand Trade Certificate to that effect, somewhere), so I have a fair idea about shop windows and what passers by will take in with a 3 second glance: usually not much!
I happen to enjoy designing and building small websites on the ‘less is more’ principle, creating stylish uncluttered sites that load fast and present what you have to offer almost as quickly.
